Fears and phobias may seem similar, but phobias are more distinct. A phobia produces an irrational persistent fear, that is excessive and unnecessary. It is an overpowering and incapacitating fear of a situation, object, place, animal or feeling, that occurs when people have an unrealistic and / or exaggerated feeling of danger.

 

Here is a good example of the difference between a fear and a phobia. If a spider crawled up a persons arm, most people would get the heebie-jeebies, whereas a person with a phobia of spiders would be mentally and / or bodily weakened by it, possibly even frozen to the spot!

A phobia can be so extreme that some people will completely avoid the situation or thing that triggers the phobia, therefore limiting their normal day to day freedom.

 

Suffering from a phobia is common, and many people allow phobias to interfere with their life without knowing that these phobias can easily be removed with hypnotherapy.
